Waterside Festival is a series of events throughout the summer that celebrate the river Stort. There are plenty of fantastic river themed activities for both children and adults. As part of Waterside Festival some local groups are offering taster sessions in a range of activities. From fishing to canoeing, there is something for everyone to get involved with. There is plenty of literature to pick up from Bishop’s Stortford Tourist Information Centre including fun Waterside Festival activity packs for children, and Waterside Festival information packs with leaflets and maps. There is also a virtual content, including South Mill Arts virtual river tour. The festival focuses on outside activities to encourage more people to visit the river, such as litter picking days, Heritage Day and Wildlife Day. The Waterside Photography Competition also offers the opportunity win prizes whilst enjoying the river.

Canoe Sessions
Bishop’s Stortford Canoe club will be offering 2 hour introductory sessions for £20 per person at their clubhouse near South Mill Lock between August and September. To book and for more information please visit stortfordcanoe.org.uk/waterside or call 01279 755089.

Angling Sessions
Bishop’s Stortford & District Angling Society in partnership with Everybody Can Fish, will be holding angling sessions for those interested in starting fishing. Sessions are on 21 August and 22 August between 10:00am and 4:00pm at Malcolm Barker Lake, CM22 7QA. Sessions are free to attend, but booking is required. Booking information coming soon. Waterside Activity and Information Packs
Free children's Waterside activity packs and Waterside information packs are available from Bishop’s Stortford Tourist Information Centre. Activity packs add additional fun to walks along the river, and information packs include a range of river walks, canoe and fishing leaflets, Canal River Trust Information and much more.

South Mill Guided River Walk

Wildlife Day
Join the Friends of Castle Park on 8 August for a celebration of wildlife at Castle Park, including a self-guided tour and interactive activities. More details to follow. For more information visit friendsofcastlepark.net

Heritage Day

Litter Picking

Photography Competition
The Waterside Photography Competition; ‘Life on the River’ is open to amateur photographers. Shortlisted entries will be displayed in an exhibition at South Mill Arts and win £50 gift voucher. Entries open 21 June. For more information click here.

Waterside Festival is organised by Bishop’s Stortford Town Council, East Herts District Council, South Mill Arts, Countryside Management Service, The National Lottery Community Fund, and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

All events will be delivered in a Covid secure way and may be subject to change as mandated by law at the time of the event. Bishop’s Stortford Town Council and other organisations will endeavour to host the events except where prevented from doing so by circumstances beyond its control such as if the Government forbids events, gatherings etc
