It is with deep sadness and regret that the Town Council has learned of the passing, on 9th April 2021, of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, aged 99. On behalf of the people of Bishop's Stortford, the Town Council sends deepest condolences to Her Majesty and the Royal Family
Flags will be flown at half mast from the Town Council Office on Windhill until the morning of the day following the funeral.
Members of the public who wish to record their thoughts are strongly encouraged to visit the virtual book of condolence which is available on the website of the Royal Family
For those who prefer, books of condolence will also be available in the Town Council Office on Windhill and at the Tourist Information Centre in Market Square, Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm, and at the Tourist Information Centre only on Saturday 9am to 3pm. A covid-secure queuing system will be operated. The books will open on Monday, 12th April and close at 4 pm on Monday 19th April.
The Royal Family has suggested that members of the public may wish to consider making a donation to charity instead of leaving a floral tribute. If you wish to leave flowers, they may be laid near the War Memorial in the Churchyard of St Michaels Church, or near the War Memorial in Castle Gardens.
