Town Council

The Town Council provides local services for the residents and visitors.  These include management of the cemetery, the allotments, St Michael's churchyard open spaces and parks including the paddling pool and the Tourist Information Centre. It also administers Community centres and  minibuses as well as several charitable trusts and organises numerous Town Centre events including the Carnival, the Remembrance Service and charity balls and other events.

There are 18 Councillors who give their time and effort voluntarily.  The Chief Executive, JamesParker, his assistant, the Tourist Information staff, the office staff and the outdoor workers are salaried staff.

A Saturday Surgery takes place most weeks when a councillor welcomes residents to the chamber to discuss matters of interest.
