Works completed on the War Memorial

Work commences

Repairs to the War Memorial in Castle Gardens have now been completed.  The contractors carried out a gentle cleaning process of the entire structure followed by repairs to some of the stonework on the steps and re-pointing of the joints.  The War Memorials Trust approved the work and their guidlines were followed throught the entire process with the emphasis being on preservation not restoration.

Stop Press - latest news

We believe we have now resolved the principal cause of intermittant operation and the pool has now operated faultlessly for several successive days.  It is hoped that it will be open .during the weekend of 6th/7th June.

The pool will, however, be closed Jun 8th-12th in order that we can apply an additional anti-slip coating to the terracotta surround.  This was requested by many users.  We will also be undertaking some further work on the facility itself to reduce the probability of future failure.  We apologise for any inconvenience.
