  • Carol Wylde

    Sunday, March 1, 2015 - 12:00am to Tuesday, March 31, 2015 - 1:00am

    Art Space-Pastel landscapes
Local artist Carol Wylde started art training four years ago with the newly formed art group at Stansted U3A and an art medium consisting of pure pigment that has been around since the Renaissance - pastel, appealed to her the most.
Mixed and blended directly on the paper, pastel errors cannot be covered so it can be very challenging but this wasn’t an obstacle in Carolyn’s case who courageously embraced the encounter with this technique.
Her landscapes will take us to faraway places like Nebraska, Costa Rica, Africa, Burma, but also close to home - Dorset and Saffron Walden.
Making pastel her primary medium was both bold and successful.
We hope you will enjoy viewing her art in Art Space in March 2015.
All art can be purchased via artist who can be contacted on 01279 815 125

  • Jekyll and Hyde

    Thursday, March 5, 2015 - 7:30pm

Robert Louis Stevenson’s cult classic Jekyll and Hyde is reinterpreted in this modern adaptation set in an alternative London of the future, written by Jo Clifford and multi award-winning touring company Sell a Door.
A devoted man of science, Dr. Henry Jekyll is a high-profile cancer specialist, determined to find the chemical breakthrough that will solve mankind’s most challenging medical uncertainties.
Jekyll’s controversial research results in the creation of an unintentional strain of drug which entirely alters the patient’s personality. Making himself the subject of his own experimental treatments, Jekyll accidentally unleashes his ultimate inner demon in the process: the infamous Mr. Hyde.
Trapped in a corporate world, Dr. Jekyll struggles to keep hold of his own identity as he revels in the freedom and chaos of his hideous alter ego.
When Jekyll’s closest friend begins to suspect that he is unwittingly tied up in the recent gruesome murders on the streets of London, Jekyll must choose between his scientific break-through, and the impending breakdown of his own existence – but is the choice still in his hands?
“If Sell a Door continue to produce work of this quality they will be around for a long time” the Scotsman.
    Tickets: £12 / £10 concs

  • FILM: The Hundred-Foot Journey

    Tuesday, March 17, 2015 - 2:30pm to 7:30pm

Dir. Lasse Hallstrom (2014, 124 mins, cert PG) Starring Helen Mirren, Manish Dayal and Charlotte Le Bon
In "The Hundred-Foot Journey," Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) is a culinary ingénue with the gastronomic equivalent of perfect pitch.
Displaced from their native India, the Kadam family, led by Papa (Om Puri), settles in the quaint village of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val in the south of France. Filled with charm, it is both picturesque and elegant - the ideal place to settle down and open an Indian restaurant, the Maison Mumbai. That is, until the chilly chef proprietress of Le Saule Pleureur, a Michelin starred, classical French restaurant run by Madame Mallory (Academy Award (R)-winner Helen Mirren), gets wind of it.
Her icy protests against the new Indian restaurant a hundred feet from her own, escalate to all out war between the two establishments - until Hassan's passion for French haute cuisine and for Mme. Mallory's enchanting sous chef, Marguerite (Charlotte Le Bon), combine with his mysteriously delicious talent to weave magic between their two cultures and imbue Saint-Antonin with the flavors of life that even Mme. Mallory cannot ignore. At first Mme. Mallory's culinary rival, she eventually recognizes Hassan's gift as a chef and takes him under her wing.
“Lasse Hallstrom's culture clash drama, starring Helen Mirren as a French restaurateur threatened by Indian newcomers, is a foodie film with bite, says Mike McCahill” Telegraph

    Wednesday, March 18, 2015 - 2:00am

The Golden Section - or Mean - is often cited as a ratio with particular aesthetic resonance, especially in classically derived architecture. But how was it readily integrated into building facades and components in day-to-day drawing office procedures and when was it used?
This is something the speaker Michael Cook artist who worked with architects such as Sir Frederick Gibberd and Gerard Goalen had to try and resolve while working on historic building conservation and he shares his conclusions.
