The Rhodes Arts Complex is a contemporary venue for the arts and is the home of the excellent Bishop’s Stortford Museum and Thorleybourne Gallery. The original part of the building (Netteswell House) is the birthplace of Cecil Rhodes, financier, statesman and entrepreneur.

The Rhodes Arts Complex provides a varied programme of arts events and regularly plays host to professional touring productions, dance groups, musicians and comedians. Films are also show in our tiered 300 seater auditorium on the big screen.

The Bishop's Stortford Museum

The Bishop’s Stortford Museum contains the Cecil Rhodes Collection. This unique collection of artefacts, documents, archives and photographs provides an amazing insight into the life and times of Cecil Rhodes and attracts visitors from all over the world. The Rhodes Museum was established in 1938 in two listed Victorian buildings which are the birthplace of Cecil Rhodes, Victorian empire builder. As such it is a significant local landmark and has national and international links. Today, the Rhodes Museum and Local History Museum have merged to become the Bishop's Stortford Museum. The collections are housed together and provide a new focus on the town's rich local history and unique links with the story of Cecil Rhodes, Empire and Africa.

The Bishop's Stortford Museum has recently achieved accredited status from the Museums Libraries and Archives Council.

The Thorleybourne Gallery regularly hosts exhibitions by leading artists, photographers and sculptors and provides opportunities for local schools and groups to exhibit their work to the public.
