Neighbourhood Plan

Neighbourhood Plans allow residents of the town to have a direct say in the shape of new development. Find out more or volunteer to join the team.

If you live in Silverleys or Meads Wards you will be able to vote in the referendum for the plan for that part of the town which has now passed independent examination.  The referendum is likely to be held in March.

The Neighbourhood Plan for the rest of the town is currently being written and we welcome your input.  Visit our Neighbourhood Plan pages for further detail.

Bishop's Stortford History

The town of Bishop's Stortford took its origin from, and has grown up around, the ford over the river, which is now known as the Stort. Archaeological evidence shows that the Romans had several roads across the area, at least one of which crossed the river in the vicinity of what are now known as the Town Meads.
